Srinagar, Jun 24 (JKNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi (IPS), on Wednesday said that elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been put in place by Jammu and Kashmir Police to ensure the peaceful conduct of the 8th Muharram procession being organised by the Yadgari Hussaini Committee from Guru Bazar to Dalgate in Srinagar.
Speaking to news agency JKNS, as per news agency JKNS, Birdi said the police had made detailed arrangements to facilitate mourners and ensure that the general public does not face any inconvenience during the procession.
He said special attention has also been given to traffic management so that movement of vehicles and commuters in other parts of the city remains smooth despite the large gathering along the traditional procession route.
The IGP appreciated the role of volunteers and organisers, saying they have extended full cooperation to the police in maintaining discipline and ensuring the smooth conduct of the procession.
“I am thankful to the volunteers who have worked closely with Jammu and Kashmir Police. Their cooperation has helped in maintaining order and ensuring that the procession reaches its destination peacefully,” he said.
Birdi said the police have made comprehensive arrangements for both security and traffic regulation to ensure that the 8th Muharram procession concludes peacefully.
He further said that elaborate arrangements have been made across Kashmir for various Muharram gatherings and religious events being held in different districts and Imambaras.
“We have held extensive interactions with volunteers and organisers across districts so that all Muharram-related programmes are conducted in a smooth and peaceful manner,” he said.
Recalling the significance of Muharram, the IGP said the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions continue to inspire humanity.
“The message of Imam Hussain (AS) teaches humanity, duty and tolerance. We salute his message and strive to imbibe these values in our lives. His teachings remain relevant for all humanity,” Birdi said.
He also highlighted the historical significance of sabeels during Muharram and said Jammu and Kashmir Police has also made efforts to serve devotees through similar initiatives during the observance of Muharram. (JKNS)
