New Delhi, Jun 12 (JKNS): Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has publicly praised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remarks on the ongoing global energy crisis and the impact of the conflict in West Asia, saying that “some people should learn from him.”

Sharing a video of Omar Abdullah’s statement on social media platform X, as per news agency JKNS, Rijiju described the J&K Chief Minister as a “sensible leader” and said that although they may differ on several ideological issues, Abdullah’s assessment of the current situation and national interest was balanced and pragmatic.

The remarks came after Omar Abdullah highlighted the challenges being faced by several countries due to disruptions in global energy supplies caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Speaking on the issue, CM Omar Abdullah had earlier said that many European countries have started closely monitoring fuel consumption, while some neighbouring countries are facing severe restrictions in energy supplies.

He noted that compared to several nations grappling with fuel shortages and logistical challenges, India’s situation remains relatively stable with no major shortage of oil or gas supplies.

“Looking at countries in Europe, they have begun counting fuel consumption very carefully. Some of our neighbouring countries are even telling shipping companies that while ships may arrive, they cannot refuel there before returning. Compared to that, the situation in our country is much better. However, we would like the war to end as soon as possible,” Abdullah said.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for an early end to the conflict, stating that prolonged hostilities are placing pressure on the global economy and energy markets.

Rijiju’s endorsement of Abdullah’s statement has attracted attention in political circles, with observers noting the rare instance of public appreciation across political lines on an issue concerning national and global interests.

The ongoing tensions in West Asia have triggered concerns worldwide over energy security, supply chains and economic stability, prompting governments to closely monitor developments and their potential impact on domestic markets. (JKNS)
