Ganderbal, Jun 11 (JKNS): Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Department of Youth Services & Sports J&K Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary IAS along with Director General, YSS, Anuradha Gupta, on Thursday, visited the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE) in Gadoora, here.

As per news agency JKNS, He chaired a detailed review meeting attended by the Principal and faculty members of the College regarding the academic performance and research, sports infrastructure and other facilities being developed at the college campus.

 

He also inspected ongoing and proposed construction works and assessed the progress of developmental projects aimed at strengthening academic and training amenities for students.

 

Dr Shahid visited the Sports Science and Research Laboratory of the college, where he was briefed by the students of the college currently pursuing Bachelor’s in Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) and Master’s in Physical Education (M.P.Ed.), about the various advanced testing and training stations established for scientific assessment of athletes. The laboratory houses facilities for anthropometric measurements, force plate analysis for evaluating athletic performance, magnetic timing gates for speed and agility testing, cricket performance analysis software, bowling machines, BLS equipment, and several other modern sports science tools.

 

The Commissioner observed that the college has state-of-the-art infrastructure for sports education, research and athlete performance enhancement.

 

He asked DG, YSS to ensure optimum utilization of the infrastructure available. He also advised to introduce diploma and certificate courses in the College. He was informed by the DG, YSS that many refresher courses and certification courses are scheduled to be held in GCOPE in the months of June –July.

 

Dr Shahid, while interacting with the students of the college listened to their feedback and inputs patiently and assured them of taking every possible effort to address their genuine concerns. He also shared his vision for the growth of the GCOPE as an institution of excellence in sports and physical education.

 

On the sidelines of the review meeting and student interaction, an impressive presentation on the topic ‘Bridging gap between physical education sports science, physiotherapy and health science was delivered by Dr Suhail Ahmed Mir on the instructions of the Commissioner Secretary.

 

Later, Commissioner Secretary and DG, YSS also interacted with young athletes participating in different sporting events, that were underway in the college campus, including the Inter-Zone Badminton Competition organized by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Ganderbal. They praised the players for their energy, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.

 

During the visit, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Ganderbal and other officers and officials of YSS were also present. (JKNS)
