Anantnag Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Heroin Recovered

Anantnag, (JKNS): Continuing its sustained efforts against the menace of drug trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested a drug peddler and heroin recovered from his possession.

A police party of Police Post General Bus Stand (GBS) was on routine patrolling duty in the Bus Stand area when a suspicious individual was noticed coming from Prem Galli towards the Bus Stand. On observing the police patrolling party, the individual attempted to flee from the spot. However, the alert police personnel acted swiftly and tactfully apprehended him.

During search, heroin was recovered from his possession. The accused was subsequently identified as Arshad Ahmad Sofi S/o Abdul Ahad Sofi R/o Kanelwan.

In this connection, FIR No. 176/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband substance.

Anantnag Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appeals to the general public to continue supporting the police by sharing information related to drug peddling and other criminal activities in their areas. (JKNS)
