Srinagar, June 3 (JKNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on June 8 to assess the overall security situation and review preparations for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, sources said.

Sources told news agency JKNS that the meeting comes weeks before the commencement of the pilgrimage and will focus on security preparedness, intelligence coordination, deployment of forces, surveillance mechanisms and contingency planning to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the yatra.

The meeting will be attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha along with senior officials from the administration and security establishment, including the Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, senior Army officers and other top officials.

Sources said the Home Minister is expected to review the prevailing security situation in the Union Territory and take stock of the arrangements being put in place for the annual pilgrimage. Intelligence inputs and field-level assessments are also likely to be discussed during the meeting.

The Amarnath Yatra, one of the country’s largest religious pilgrimages, is scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28. Pilgrims will travel through both the traditional Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the Baltal route in Ganderbal, where multi-layered security arrangements are being planned.

Officials said extensive measures, including route sanitisation, convoy security, area domination and deployment of advanced surveillance systems, are expected to be reviewed to ensure an incident-free pilgrimage.

The June 8 meeting is likely to serve as a final comprehensive review of security and logistical preparations ahead of the yatra, sources added. (JKNS)
