Addressing the nation through his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi said the intense summer conditions demand greater attention to personal health and safety. He urged people to drink sufficient water and strictly follow advisories and guidelines issued by government agencies to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.

“Temperatures are exceptionally high in many regions. People should take care of themselves, keep drinking water and exercise caution while stepping out in the sun,” the Prime Minister said.

Recalling his recent appeal on the issue, Modi reiterated that hydration remains one of the most effective ways to cope with harsh summer weather and encouraged citizens to adopt preventive measures.

The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s traditional summer foods and beverages, noting that the arrival of summer brings unique culinary traditions across different regions of the country. He highlighted popular drinks such as Aam Panna, Lassi, Buttermilk, Sattu Sherbet, Kokum Sherbet, Sol Kadhi, Panakam, Neer Mor, Sambaram and Bael Pana, describing them as age-old remedies that provide relief from the heat while reflecting India’s cultural diversity.

Modi further turned attention to mangoes, describing them as an inseparable part of the Indian summer season. He said every region of the country boasts its own variety, flavour and aroma, making mangoes a symbol of India’s rich agricultural heritage.

Referring to famous mango varieties, the Prime Minister mentioned Alphonso and Hapus from Maharashtra, Kesar from Gujarat, Dussehri and Langra from Uttar Pradesh, Zardalu from Bihar, Chausa and Malda, along with Banganapalli, Totapuri, Neelam and Malgova from southern India. He also cited Himsagar from West Bengal and Suvarnarekha from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

He observed that each variety carries a distinct identity and is deeply connected with local traditions and memories. Modi also praised mango growers across the country, noting that Indian mangoes are increasingly reaching international markets and contributing significantly to the agricultural economy.

The Prime Minister said the growing global recognition of Indian mangoes reflects the hard work and dedication of farmers, while showcasing India’s agricultural richness to the world. (JKNS)
