According to the protesters, around 11 applicants approached the BDO Office Sukhnag seeking a fair and transparent process in the Gram Sabha matter.

Locals also raised concerns over office functioning, alleging that when they reached the office around 8:00 AM, officials were not present. Protesters claimed that employees often arrive late to the office.

The demonstrators stated that public participation was not ensured during the Gram Sabha proceedings and demanded accountability and transparency in such public meetings.

When contacted, the BDO Sukhnag said that employees report to duty on time and that biometric attendance remains operational daily from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. He further stated that although the BDO Sukhnag is also holding additional charge of BDO Budgam, the office remains available 24 hours for public service.

He added, “Regarding the Gram Sabha issue, if any one-sided decision or irregularity has taken place and people were not heard properly, action will be taken. If the Gram Sabha was conducted in a one-sided manner, another Gram Sabha will be organized to ensure transparency and public participation.”

The statement comes amid growing public concern in the area regarding transparency and community participation in local administrative processes. (JKNS)
