Anantnag, May 7 (JKNS): In a major crackdown against illegal narcotics cultivation under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, Anantnag Police on Thursday arrested ten persons involved in multiple opium poppy cultivation cases registered across different areas of the district.

As per news agency JKNS, Police has arrested ten persons involved in multiple illegal opium poppy cultivation cases registered across the district.

Police Station Mattan arrested Gh Nabi Mir S/O Gh Ahmad Mir R/O Nanil in connection with FIR No. 47/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act. The case pertains to illegal cultivation of opium poppy detected during a joint verification conducted by police along with Revenue and Agriculture Department officials in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

Police Station Larnoo also arrested two accused persons identified as Gh Ahmad Sheikh @ Ama Khuja S/O Mohd Ramzan Sheikh R/O Dessu involved in FIR No. 24/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act and Nisar Ahmad Beigh S/O Ab Qudoos Beigh R/O Khrety Larnoo involved in FIR No. 22/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, Police Station Kokernag arrested seven persons involved in three separate NDPS cases related to illegal poppy cultivation. The arrested persons include Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Mohd Amin Bhat, Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, Shakeel Ahmad Wani, Farooq Ahmad Wani and another Nazir Ahmad Bhat, residents of Sagam and Panzgam areas of Kokernag.

All the accused persons have been formally arrested after completion of legal formalities and further investigation in the cases is underway.

Anantnag Police remains committed towards eradicating the menace of narcotics cultivation and appeals to the general public to share information related to drug cultivation or trafficking for timely and strict legal action. (JKNS)
