Record Public Participation in ‘Nasha Mukt Padyatra’ Led by Lieutenant Governor in Budgam

Budgam, May 5 (JKNS): Nearly 60,000 people participated in a massive “Nasha Mukt Padyatra” in Budgam, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, reflecting a strong and united stand against drug abuse in the district.

The padyatra was organized as part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan,” drawing participation from the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Budgam, representatives of various political parties, former members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), former heads of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), students, youth, senior citizens, and the general public.

The march commenced from the New Bus Stand Budgam and passed through key areas of the town before culminating at the Old Bus Stand Budgam, witnessing enthusiastic participation throughout the route.

Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the need for collective efforts to eliminate drug abuse. He stated that effective coordination between the administration, law enforcement agencies, and the public is crucial to tackle the growing menace of drugs.

He further highlighted that continuous awareness and strong community participation, particularly involving the youth, are essential to prevent drug addiction and curb its spread.

The Lieutenant Governor also announced the formation of a voluntary network comprising parents, women, and youth to identify early signs of drug use and support preventive efforts at the grassroots level.

He reiterated the administration’s firm resolve to take strict action against drug peddlers and ensure a drug-free society.

Officials stated that similar campaigns will be extended to other districts to strengthen prevention, enforcement, and awareness measures.

The overwhelming public response in Budgam stands as a clear indication of the growing awareness and determination among people to eradicate the menace of drugs from society. (JKNS)
