Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, Garg said that plantation activities send a positive message and are a shared responsibility towards safeguarding the environment. He appreciated minority employees, especially from the Sikh community, for taking the initiative of plantation drives at the Divisional Office Complex and DC Srinagar office.

He said the Government of India and the Lieutenant Governor have consistently stressed the need to protect the environment, particularly in the Kashmir Valley. Referring to the Prime Minister’s “One Tree One Mother” initiative, Garg said Kashmir has taken a lead in the campaign with active participation from civil society.

Appealing to the public, he urged people to make the most of the upcoming plantation season and continue such efforts, especially ahead of World Environment Day in June. He also stressed adopting nature-friendly practices such as reducing waste, maintaining cleanliness, conserving natural resources, and saving water.

On the anti-drug campaign, Garg said the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, launched by the Lieutenant Governor on April 11, has witnessed widespread participation cutting across all sections of society, including civil society, media, NGOs, religious leaders, and industries.

He said awareness remains a key component of the campaign, alongside strict action against drug peddlers and those pushing youth towards substance abuse. He added that both the district administration and police in Kashmir have intensified their efforts over the past weeks.

Garg also informed that a major campaign will be held in Srinagar, urging people to participate in large numbers and support the 100-day programme aimed at eradicating drug menace. He appealed to citizens to share any information related to drug activities with control rooms and police helplines to ensure timely action. (JKNS)
