The event witnessed participation of senior police officers, SHOs, ICs PPs, and a large gathering of over 2,000 people from different walks of life, including students, teachers, traders, civil society members, and religious scholars.*

The programme commenced with an awareness session where speakers highlighted the growing concerns related to drug abuse and its impact on individuals, families and society.

SSP Sopore elaborated on legal provisions under the NDPS Act, early signs of addiction and the availability of de-addiction facilities.

While addressing the gathering, SSP Sopore emphasised that tackling drug abuse requires a collective societal effort and urged parents, teachers and religious leaders to play an active role in guiding youth.

He particularly appealed to religious scholars to utilise community platforms to spread awareness and encouraged young people to channel their energy into education, sports and constructive activities. He also reiterated Sopore Police’s zero-tolerance policy against drug peddlers.

A mass rally was subsequently taken out from Dak Bungalow Chijhama, where participants carrying placards such as “Say No to Drugs,” and “Drugs Kill Dreams” raised awareness slogans, reflecting strong public resolve against the menace of drugs. The rally concluded peacefully with active public participation.

During the programme, it was also resolved that participants will organise awareness programmes at Mohalla and village levels over the coming three months, aiming to transform the campaign into a sustained mass movement across the district.

The public was urged to share information regarding drug peddling or abuse on the dedicated helpline 9596773144, with assurance that the identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential.

Sopore Police reaffirmed their commitment to protect the future of youth and appealed to all stakeholders to actively join and strengthen this collective mission towards a drug-free society. (JKNS)
