Budgam Police Tighten Noose on Illegal Mining; 23 Cases Filed, 45 Vehicles Seized

Budgam, Apr 17 (JKNS): In a major enforcement drive against illegal mining, Budgam Police have intensified action across the district during the first quarter of 2026, registering multiple cases, arresting offenders, and seizing a large number of vehicles involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Budgam Police have intensified enforcement actions across the district during the first quarter of 2026.

As part of this drive, a total of 23 FIRs have been registered at various Police Stations of the district, 24 persons arrested, and 45 vehicles seized for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

The seized vehicles include 17 tippers, 20 tractors, 5 JCBs, 2 L&T machines, and 1 sand dredger, which were impounded from various areas of the district including Beerwah, Khag, Hardpanzoo, Chadoora, Kanigund, Doodganga, and Waterhail.
In addition to legal action, fines amounting to lakhs of rupees have been imposed on the violators by the Department of Geology and Mining.

Budgam Police have urged the public to actively cooperate by reporting instances of illegal mining. Emphasizing the importance of community participation, the police reiterated that such collective efforts are crucial in effectively curbing this menace.

Budgam Police reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding natural resources, ensuring adherence to lawful mining practices, and preserving the ecological balance of the district. (JKNS)
