World Health Day in Dehradun: Major Discussion on Health and Road Safety

Dehradun, Apr 7 (JKNS): On the occasion of World Health Day 2026, a program was organized at Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine and Maternity Centre, Dehradun, to raise awareness about health, road safety, and public responsibility.

The event began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Chief Guest Shri Subodh Uniyal, Hon’ble Health Minister of Uttarakhand, along with distinguished guests Shri Naresh Bansal, Member of Parliament, Padma Shri Kanhaiya Lal Pokhriyal, Dr. S. N. Singh, Orthopaedic surgeon, Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay, Renowned Orthopedic Surgeon, and Dr. Gaurav Sanjay, Orthopaedic surgeon.

President AIIMS Guwahati, Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay, highlighted that India witnesses nearly 5 lakh road accidents every year, claiming over 1.5 lakh lives. He emphasized creating a nationwide movement for road safety, incorporating it into education, and establishing AIIMS institutions as “Road Safety Knowledge Centers”.

Chief Guest, Health Minister Shri Subodh Uniyal, announced two new policies of the Uttarakhand Government: specialist doctors will serve in hilly regions on a six-month rotation, and residential facilities for their families will be provided in Dehradun and Haldwani.

Guest of Honour Shri Naresh Bansal stressed that accidents continue due to non-compliance with rules and said, “Only a healthy generation can realize the vision of a developed India.” Guest of Honour Padma Shri Kanhaiya Lal Pokhriyal urged citizens to maintain cleanliness, while Dr. S. N. Singh highlighted the need for physical, mental, and social balance and raised concern over rising substance abuse among youth. Dr. Gaurav Sanjay explained the ‘One Health’ concept, connecting human, animal, and environmental health, emphasizing clean air, safe water, nutritious food, and balanced diets.

Chairman Shri Kalyan Sinharawat, Padma Shri Awardee, reminded that road safety is every citizen’s responsibility, and the program concluded with a vote of thanks and a pledge for a safer, healthier, and aware society. The program was conducted and coordinated by Yogesh Agrawal. (JKNS)
