Central Excise Update: ₹3 Per Litre Duty on Selected Goods, Some Items Kept Nil; Exports Exempted

New Delhi, Mar 26 (JKNS): The Central Government (GOI) on Friday amended the provisions under the Central Excise Act, 1944, bringing changes to excise duty rates with immediate effect.

According to Notification, issued by the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) as per news agency JKNS, the amendments have been made in public interest under Section 5A of the Central Excise Act, read with Section 147 of the Finance Act, 2002.

As per the notification, amendments have been carried out in the earlier notification No. 05/2019-Central Excise dated July 6, 2019. In the revised table, the duty against Serial No. 1 has been changed to “Rs. 3 per litre”, while the duty against Serial No. 2 has been revised to “Nil”.

The notification further clarifies that these provisions will not apply to goods cleared for export.

The government has stated that the amended notification comes into force with immediate effect. (JKNS)
