In a post on X, as per news agency JKNS, the Prime Minister said, “Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia.”

“India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability,” PM Modi said.

Earlier, US envoy Sergio Gor, in a separate post on X, said that President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Modi and discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Both sides emphasised the need for maintaining peace, stability, and uninterrupted global trade routes in the region, the post added.

This marks the first telephonic conversation between PM Modi and President Trump since the outbreak of the West Asia war, and the second interaction between the two leaders this year, the first being held following discussions on a proposed trade arrangement.

Notably, the two leaders have remained in regular contact over the past year.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated that, Their key engagements include a congratulatory exchange on January 27, 2025, a meeting at the White House on February 13, condolences conveyed on April 22 following the Pahalgam incident, a conversation on June 17, a birthday call on September 17, Diwali greetings on October 21, and talks on December 11.

In 2026, they also interacted on February 1 regarding a trade deal before the latest discussion on the West Asia crisis.

Meanwhile, a senior Pentagon official Elbridge Colby, speaking at an event hosted by Ananta Aspen Centre in New Delhi, on 24th March (Tuesday) said that the United States views India not merely as a key partner but as an essential one in ensuring a long-term favourable balance of power in Asia.
