Shaheed Diwas Observed with Patriotic Fervour at GDC Shopian

  1. Shopian, Mar 23 (JKNS): Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian, in collaboration with My Bharat Shopian and NSS Units, on Monday observed Shaheed Diwas with great enthusiasm, paying rich tributes to the martyrs of India’s freedom struggle and promoting a spirit of patriotism among students.

 

Degree College Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian, in collaboration with My Bharat Shopian and NSS Units, solemnly observed Shaheed Diwas with great patriotism and enthusiasm on 23rd March 2026.

The event aimed to pay heartfelt tribute to the brave martyrs of India’s freedom struggle and to instill a spirit of national responsibility among students and participants.

 

The programme commenced with the National Anthem, followed by floral tributes to the martyrs, remembering their supreme sacrifices for the nation. The event was formally hosted by Dr. Mudasir Iqbal, NSS Programme Officer, GDC Shopian, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the day.

 

The Presidential Address was delivered by the esteemed Principal of GDC Shopian, Prof.

Tariq Hussain Mir, who emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and urged students to imbibe the values of patriotism, unity, and responsibility towards nation-building.

 

A thought-provoking speech was delivered by Dr. Tawseef Mushtaq, Head of the Department of History, who reflected upon the historical importance of Shaheed Diwas and inspired the audience to contribute positively towards society.

 

The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks presented by Prof. Basit Ishaq, NSS Programme Officer, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organizers for making the event successful.

 

Following the inaugural session, a Mega Padayatra (March) was organized, which began from the College Administrative Block and proceeded towards Gagren College Road.

 

The rally witnessed active participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers, and students, who marched with great enthusiasm, holding banners and raising slogans promoting patriotism and civic responsibility.

 

During the event, a Pledge Ceremony on “Viksit Bharat” was also conducted, where

participants collectively resolved to contribute towards the vision of a developed and responsible India.

 

After the culmination of the Padayatra, a Cleanliness Drive was carried out across the college campus by NSS volunteers.

 

The activity was undertaken with great zeal and dedication, reflecting the commitment of students towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

 

Overall, the celebration of Shaheed Diwas at GDC Shopian was a grand success. It not only

paid tribute to the martyrs but also inspired students and participants to uphold the values of discipline, patriotism, and social responsibility. (JKNS)
