Srinagar, Mar 12 (JKNS): The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it compulsory for independent milk producers and milk vendors to obtain registration or a license before engaging in any milk-related business activities.

As per the advisory issued by FSSAI’s Regulatory Compliance Division, a copy of which is with news agency Kashmir JKNS, milk producers who are not part of cooperative societies and vendors selling milk directly to consumers must register with the authority before beginning or continuing operations.

The move comes in the wake of recent reports of suspected milk adulteration across India, prompting the FSSAI to direct enforcement agencies to ensure strict adherence to registration and licensing requirements.

Officials have also been instructed to inspect milk chillers and storage units regularly to maintain proper temperatures and prevent spoilage, thereby safeguarding public health.

Further, states and Union Territories have been asked to conduct special registration drives to bring all independent milk producers and vendors under regulatory oversight, ensuring compliance with food safety norms. (JKNS)
