Two Pilots Lose Lives after IAF Su-30MKI Crashes in Assam

Srinagar, Mar 6 (JKNS): An Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Karbi Anglong district of Assam during a training mission on Thursday, resulting in the loss of two pilots, the IAF said on Friday.

In a post on X, the Indian Air Force, as per news agency JKNS, initially on Thursday reported that a Su-30MKI aircraft had gone overdue after taking off from Jorhat, Assam and was last in contact at around 7:42 pm, following which search and rescue operations were immediately launched.

Later, the IAF confirmed that the aircraft had crashed in the Karbi Anglong area of Assam, approximately 60 kilometres from Jorhat, while on a routine training mission, with rescue teams rushed to the site.

 

In a subsequent update on Friday morning, the IAF acknowledged the loss of Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

 

The force expressed deep condolences and said all personnel of the Indian Air Force stand firmly with the bereaved families in this time of grief. (JKNS)
