Srinagar, Feb 15 (JKNS): Sopore is set to witness a major boost in healthcare infrastructure as the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore is likely to be upgraded to a full-fledged District Hospital.

In an exclusive interaction with a correspondent news agency JKNS, MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar said that SDH Sopore, along with SDH Bijbehara and SDH Kupwara, is expected to be upgraded soon.

He added that the administrative ban imposed in 2015 on such upgradations is likely to be lifted, paving the way for the move.

Highlighting key concerns, Kar said that issues related to ultrasound (USG) services at SDH Sopore during night hours, primarily due to staff shortage, have been taken up with higher authorities. He assured that steps are being initiated to fill vacant posts and strengthen healthcare delivery in the constituency.

The MLA further informed that nearly ₹9 crore have been earmarked for healthcare development in Sopore constituency. The funds will cover SDH Sopore, NTPHC Watlab, NTPHC Dangerpora, Duroo, Tarzoo, Warpora, Sangrama and several other sub-centres.

Kar also said that three ambulances have already been sanctioned for Tarzoo, Duroo and SDH Sopore, while three additional ambulances are expected shortly, taking the total number to six for various NTPHCs in the area.

He, however, acknowledged existing challenges, particularly the shortage of medical staff due to retirements and pending recruitments. Expressing optimism, Kar said he hopes that the Omar Abdullah-led government will extend full support to further improve healthcare facilities in the region. (JKNS)
