His demise marks the end of an era for a folk form he helped restore to public attention through modern platforms.

Tickoo rose to prominence with his televised Ladishah performances on ETV Urdu, where he captivated audiences in traditional attire donning a pheran and turban and performing with the dhukar.

Blending humour, satire and sharp social commentary, he gave new life to a nearly forgotten oral tradition by connecting it with contemporary themes.

A native of Martand in Anantnag district, Tickoo was residing in Jammu. His association with theatre began in 1990, and over the past three decades, he featured in numerous stage plays and telefilms.

Widely respected for his wit and engaging narrative style, he played a pivotal role in introducing Ladishah to younger generations through electronic media.

Artists and cultural figures across Jammu and Kashmir have described his contribution as significant in safeguarding and reshaping a fading folk heritage for modern audiences. (JKNS)
