Srinagar, Feb 13 (JKNS): Prompt and coordinated response by the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) averted potential damage in a series of minor fire incidents reported from Rajbagh, Bemina and the Zabarwan hills near Gupkar on Thursday.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, the first alert was received from Ikhrajpora near Radio Colony in Rajbagh, where running fire calls were reported at the State Fire Control Room, Batamaloo. Acting without delay, a fire tender from Fire Station Gowkadal was dispatched to the location.

Officials said a substandard geyser overheated due to a suspected short circuit, leading to dense smoke inside the premises. The situation could have escalated into a major blaze had the response been delayed.

Fire personnel swiftly intervened and managed to contain the smoke and flames in time, preventing the fire from spreading and minimizing property damage. Residents in the area appreciated the timely action of the department.

In a separate incident at Bemina near Masjid Hyder, fire tenders from Fire Station JVC rushed to the spot after a distress call. A gas bukhari had caught fire due to excessive heat, causing damage to the regulator and the appliance. Minor losses, including damage to two mobile phones and nearby items, were reported.

The F&ES team, with support from locals, secured the gas cylinder and brought the situation under control, preventing any explosion or further escalation.

Authorities have once again appealed to the public to exercise caution while using electrical and gas-based heating appliances, particularly during the winter months, and to avoid the use of substandard equipment.

Meanwhile, a fire incident was also reported on Zabarwan Mountain near Gupkar. Teams from Fire Station Gowkadal were deployed and were engaged in containing the blaze. Further details were awaited. (JKNS)
