Srinagar, Feb 7 (JKNS): Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Fazlul Haseeb on Saturday assured employees that their pending salaries will be disbursed next week, attributing the delay to procedural issues related to revised estimates.

Speaking to news agency JKNS, Haseeb acknowledged that salaries had not been released on time but clarified that the delay occurred due to late revision of estimates, which has now been completed.

“It is true that employees did not receive their salaries. The delay happened because the revised estimates were pending, but the process is now complete,” he said.

The Commissioner said he personally monitored the issue and even visited Jammu to follow it up.

“I was personally tracking the matter and went to Jammu. Yesterday, the Budget was passed, and now salaries of all SMC employees will be disbursed next week,” Haseeb added.

Earlier, employees of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation staged a massive protest over non-payment of salaries, claiming they had not been paid for the past four months. Protesters said they were facing severe financial hardship despite reporting to duty regularly.

The agitating employees warned that if their salaries are not released within three days, they would intensify the agitation and launch a kaam-chod hartal. (JKNS)
