Srinagar, Feb 2 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Monday said that the demand for establishing a separate National Law University (NLU) in Jammu is valid and justified, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party will strongly advocate for it.

Speaking to reporters, outside assembly complex Jammu, as per news agency JKNS, LoP Sharma said students from the Jammu region face serious difficulties and cannot be compelled to pursue legal education in Kashmir.

He said their concerns are genuine and deserve immediate attention from the government.

“The demand raised by Jammu students is absolutely justified. They cannot study in Kashmir, and BJP stands firmly with them. We will fight for a separate National Law University in Jammu,” Sharma said.

  • The LoP stressed that the issue should not be politicised and must instead be viewed through the lens of accessibility, convenience and regional equity. He said Jammu has been demanding premier educational institutions for long, and an NLU would open new avenues for aspiring law students.

Sharma further said that the BJP will take up the matter vigorously on the floor of the Assembly and at every appropriate forum until the demand is fulfilled. Ignoring students’ voices, he added, would amount to denying them equal educational opportunities. (JKNS)
