Srinagar, Jan 17 (JKNS): The Jammu & Kashmir Coordination Committee of Engineering Graduates on Saturday called on the government to urgently address long-standing issues affecting the engineering fraternity, including recruitment delays, career stagnation, pay anomalies, and pending placements.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, committee members, as per news agency JKNS, acknowledged progress in some departments like Jal Shakti and PWDRNB but expressed concern over an 18-month halt in departmental revitalisation efforts.

They highlighted that files pertaining to promotions for positions such as AE, AW, XN, SE, and Chief Engineer remain pending, urging the Chief Minister, ministers, and Principal Secretary to expedite reforms and ensure clarity in additional charge and in-charge postings.

A key demand focused on the implementation of the Assured Career Progression (ASARO) scheme, approved in 2018 but yet to be executed. Committee members warned that prolonged delays are demoralizing engineers, pushing some toward early retirement and contributing to a talent drain from the UT.

The committee also stressed pay anomalies from previous pay commissions, insisting that engineers must receive proper grades and revised salaries ahead of the 8th Pay Commission rollout.

They added that recruitment delays continue to affect hundreds of mechanical and civil engineers selected through JEE, who have been waiting 3-4 years for placement despite existing vacancies.

“Timely government action is crucial to strengthen the engineering community and enhance service delivery across Jammu & Kashmir,” the committee said. (JKNS)
