‘UMEED’ Against Drugs: SSB, NGO Lead Nasha Mukt Bharat Awareness Drive in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Dec 24 (JKNS): In a concerted effort to combat drug abuse and guide youth towards a healthier future, the 13th Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Dignibal Ganderbal, in collaboration with the NGO Saving the Future, organised an awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with the theme “UMEED” at the Royal Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Ganderbal.

Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, an awareness programme was organised by 13 Bn SSB, Dignibal, Ganderbal, in collaboration with Saving the Future NGO on 23rd November 2025 at the Royal Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Ganderbal, J&K. The programme aimed to highlight the ill effects of drug abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free society.

The event witnessed active participation from social activists, educationists, students, medical professionals, and representatives of the civil administration.

The programme was graced by Ms Nighat Aman, SSP, as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Shri Dhiraj Pathania, Offg. Commandant & Second-in-Command, 13 Bn SSB; Ms Naziya Bashir, Principal of the Institute; Mr Altaf Ahmad, Chairman, Ganderbal Municipal Corporation; and Dr Fara, Senior Superintendent, District Hospital Ganderbal.

During the programme, eminent speakers shared insights and experiences on the growing menace of drug abuse and the collective responsibility of society in addressing it. The speakers included Dr Tauseef (Social Activist), Ms Saima Tabasum (Social Activist), Mr Ajaz Kashani (Religious Figure), Ms Mariya Rukhsar (College Student), Mr Bilal Bhat (Social Activist), and Advocate Junaid Syed, Chairman, Saving the Future NGO.

The speakers stressed that drug abuse is not merely an individual issue but a grave social challenge threatening the nation’s future. Emphasis was laid on guiding youth towards the right path and motivating them to contribute positively to nation-building.

The presence of dignitaries, subject experts, media representatives, and enthusiastic student participation underscored the seriousness of the issue. The role of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) beyond border and internal security was also appreciated for its sustained efforts in social responsibility and public welfare through awareness and civic action programmes.

The programme concluded with a collective appeal to all stakeholders, particularly the youth, to stay vigilant, spread awareness, and actively support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan for a healthier and drug-free India. (JKNS)
