Srinagar, Dec 19 (JKNS): Residents from various areas of North Kashmir have urged the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to immediately fill the vacant post of Additional Commissioner-II in the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, saying the delay has caused serious inconvenience to the public.

The residents as per news agency JKNS said the post has remained vacant for nearly a month following the transfer of the previous incumbent, Abid Hussain Kira, under a government order issued on November 20, 2025. They said no alternative arrangement has been made so far, resulting in the piling up of important cases.

According to the aggrieved residents, the Additional Commissioner-II is responsible for hearing revenue-related matters of North Kashmir. In the absence of the officer, people particularly from remote and far-flung areas are facing prolonged delays in disposal of their cases, affecting access to justice and routine administrative work.

The residents said they are being compelled to make repeated trips to Srinagar without any outcome, leading to financial strain, loss of time and mental distress.

Appealing to the authorities, the people said that an immediate posting of a suitable officer is essential in the larger public interest to ensure smooth functioning of the administration and timely redressal of public grievances. —(JKNS)
