Firemen Recruitment Scam: Aspirants Laud LG Sinha, Raina; Protests Continue Seeking Full Accountability
FacebookTwitterWhatsappTelegram

Srinagar, Dec 18 (JKNS): Fire and Emergency Services aspirants on Thursday staged demonstrations in Srinagar, thanking Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior BJP leader Ravindra Raina for what they termed a transparent and fair handling of irregularities in the 2020 firemen recruitment process, while asserting that the fight for justice is far from over.

Aspirants gathered at the Press Enclave here and expressed satisfaction over the recent government action, saying the termination of services of tainted appointees has restored faith in merit-based recruitment. Several protesters described the move as “just the trailer,” claiming that more revelations and accountability are yet to come.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, the aspirants appreciated the role of the Lieutenant Governor and other authorities for listening to their grievances and acting decisively on the findings of the inquiry. They, however, urged the administration to thoroughly examine additional evidence submitted by them to ensure that all those involved in the alleged scam are brought to book.

The protests come in the wake of the government’s December 15 order terminating the services of 103 firemen, appointed through the 2020 recruitment process, after an inquiry committee and an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation found large-scale irregularities. The probe reportedly revealed tampering with OMR sheets, manipulation of merit lists, fabrication of records and inflated marks. Of the 106 beneficiaries identified, three had already been removed earlier, while action was taken against the remaining 103. (JKNS)
