Srinagar, Dec 15 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the government is making concerted efforts to revive tourism in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, even as he acknowledged that recent developments have led to some cancellations.

Speaking to reporters at SKICC Srinagar, CM Omar as per news agency JKNS said restoring momentum in the tourism sector remains a key focus of the government. “While there have been cancellations due to recent tensions, we are actively working to revive tourism in the coming days,” he said.

He described the upcoming annual convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India in Srinagar as a positive signal. “Such events help rebuild confidence and send a strong message that Jammu and Kashmir remains open and welcoming for tourists,” the Chief Minister said, adding that efforts are also underway to strengthen tourism promotion and related infrastructure.

The Chief Minister stressed that tourism revival must go hand in hand with improved governance and administrative confidence.

“A positive tourism narrative is important, but equally essential is restoring people’s faith in governance and institutions,” he said.

Omar Abdullah also touched upon administrative issues, stating that matters such as the Chadoora demolition would be resolved through coordination between elected representatives and the administration. He reiterated that elected representatives must be treated with respect and involved in decision-making processes.

He further expressed concern over reports of political interference in the functioning of corporations and departments, calling them “unfortunate.” Omar said such institutions should function independently, without external pressure or political motivation. (JKNS)
