As an educationist, Annu has worked extensively with schools across Kashmir, advocating an approach that goes beyond conventional classroom teaching. She strongly believes education is a means to shape character and responsible citizenship. Through value-based learning programmes, mentorship initiatives and community-driven activities, she has promoted empathy, discipline, resilience, environmental responsibility and civic sense among students. Her engagement with teachers and learners has helped foster learning environments rooted in ethical thinking, social awareness and national values.

In her capacity as Vice President of the Kashmir Schools Federation, Annu plays an active role in strengthening the region’s educational ecosystem. Working closely with school administrations and educators, she promotes child-friendly practices, quality education and holistic development. Through workshops, collaborative platforms and awareness programmes, she supports innovative teaching methods, teacher capacity building and student welfare initiatives, reinforcing education as a key driver of social harmony and progress.

Annu’s social work is also marked by close collaboration with the Indian Army in organising educational, social and awareness programmes focused on youth development, women empowerment, peace-building and community cohesion. These initiatives have helped bridge gaps between institutions and local communities, particularly in sensitive areas, fostering trust, dialogue and unity at the grassroots level.

A significant part of her work involves sustained engagement with families of martyrs. Her association with these families extends beyond symbolic gestures, focusing instead on emotional support, counselling and dignity-based outreach. Through commemorative events and personal interactions, she has consistently stood by martyr families, reflecting her belief that honouring sacrifice must be accompanied by long-term care and recognition.

Notably, Annu has been closely associated with the “Veer Nari” programmes, organised in collaboration with the Indian Army, which honour the courage and resilience of the wives of fallen soldiers. These initiatives provide platforms for emotional healing, solidarity and empowerment, while bringing the voices and stories of Veer Naris into public focus.

Under her leadership, Khaki Association has grown into an active grassroots organisation working in women empowerment, environmental awareness, skill development and employment generation. The organisation has supported women artisans by promoting traditional crafts, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods, enabling economic independence and self-reliance.

Beyond her organisational roles, Annu continues to advocate for social justice, education reforms, environmental protection and women’s rights across Kashmir. A mentor and motivator, she believes lasting change is rooted in compassion, education and collective responsibility.

Through her tireless efforts and inclusive leadership, Annu has become a symbol of resilience and service, contributing meaningfully to community development and positive social change in Kashmir, officials and social observers noted. (JKNS)
