Kashmir Shivers Again as Pahalgam Drops to -4.3°C; Srinagar Sees Slight Relief Amid Cloud Cover

Srinagar, Dec 7 (JKNS): Temperatures across Kashmir dipped once again on Saturday night, keeping most parts of the Valley under a severe cold spell, with Pahalgam emerging as the coldest location at -4.3°C, temperature.

Data compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, a slight improvement was, however, noticed at a few stations including Srinagar where the minimum temperature settled at -0.9°C. Though still below freezing, the mercury here stood a bit higher compared to the previous nights.

Qazigund recorded -1.0°C, Awantipora -3.0°C, Pulwama -3.8°C, and Shopian -3.5°C. The Srinagar Airport remained considerably colder than the city at -2.4°C.

In north Kashmir, Kupwara registered -0.8°C, Bandipora -0.9°C, and Baramulla -2.0°C. Zethan Rafiabad reported one of the lowest readings in the region at -4.1°C.

Popular hill destinations also stayed under sub-zero conditions, with Gulmarg touching -1.6°C and Sonamarg settling at -0.9°C.

Kokernag (1.1°C), Kulgam (0.6°C), and Ganderbal (0.4°C) were among the few pockets that remained above freezing, offering marginal relief from the biting cold.

In the Jammu division, temperatures stayed relatively moderate. Jammu recorded a minimum of 8.3°C, followed by Katra at 9.2°C, Batote at 6.2°C, Bhaderwah at 2.0°C, and Banihal at 1.5°C. Udhampur registered 3.6°C, while Ramban and Doda saw lows of 4.9°C and 6.7°C respectively.

In Ladakh, harsh cold conditions tightened their grip as Leh dropped to -7.2°C, Kargil to -6.4°C, and Nubra Valley to -3.2°C. (JKNS)
