Srinagar, Dec 6 (JKNS): The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday issued a stringent 24-hour show-cause notice to IndiGo Airlines after major flight disruptions in recent days left thousands of passengers facing severe inconvenience and distress.

According to the notice, as per news agency JKNS, the DGCA observed that IndiGo’s operational breakdown stemmed from its failure to make adequate arrangements required under the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms. The regulator said this failure resulted in large-scale cancellations and delays, reflecting “significant lapses in planning, oversight and resource management.”

The aviation watchdog stated that IndiGo’s actions amount to prima facie non-compliance with Rule 42A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, and key Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) related to crew duty hours, permissible flight time, and mandatory rest periods for flight crew.

The notice further underscored that the airline also failed to provide essential assistance and timely information to stranded passengers, as mandated under CAR guidelines for delays, cancellations, and denied boarding.

Holding the airline’s CEO accountable, the DGCA said the leadership failed to ensure reliable operations and necessary arrangements for passengers, resulting in widespread disruption across the network.

IndiGo has been directed to submit a reply within 24 hours explaining why enforcement action should not be taken. The regulator warned that failure to respond within the stipulated time will result in the matter being decided ex parte. (JKNS)
