Srinagar, Nov 29 (JKNS): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Saturday announced that the government has constituted a high-power, multidisciplinary committee tasked with preparing a holistic plan to ease traffic congestion and upgrade mobility infrastructure across Srinagar.

Speaking to reporters, Div Com Garg as per news agency JKNS said that the newly formed panel brings together all major departments involved in traffic and infrastructure management. “The committee includes officials from Srinagar Smart City, SMC, SDA, KMRT, Police, SSP Traffic, PWD, R&B, Transport Department, and several other bodies. The idea is to craft an integrated approach instead of working in silos,” he said.

Garg said the administration aims to streamline traffic flow and modernize the transportation system through coordinated efforts. “Beyond government agencies, we also need the cooperation of residents, traders, transporters, and street vendors. Their participation is crucial for making any traffic plan effective on the ground,” he added.

The Divisional Commissioner noted that multiple projects are already progressing under Srinagar Smart City, including modern traffic signal systems, upgraded junctions, and expanded parking facilities. “We are working on redesigning important intersections, developing rotaries, and constructing multi-level parking sites to reduce congestion in busy parts of the city,” he said.

He further revealed that nearly 300 designated bus stop points have been identified across Srinagar to regulate public transport movement. “These locations have been formally communicated to district authorities so that buses halt only at approved stops, enabling more orderly and smooth movement,” Garg said.

The field inspection conducted earlier in the day, he added, was part of the comprehensive planning process. “Members from the Chamber of Commerce, transport associations, and local bodies joined us during the visit. Their suggestions will help shape a traffic framework that is practical, inclusive, and long-term.” (JKNS)
