New Delhi, Nov 22 (JKNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India’s key priorities and outcomes from its G20 Presidency have been strongly reflected in the Leaders’ Declaration adopted at the G20 Summit in South Africa, reaffirming the voice and concerns of the Global South.

According to JKNS, the declaration echoed India’s focus areas, including a firm condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It also reaffirmed commitments made in New Delhi on harnessing digital public infrastructure and emerging technologies, including safe, secure and trustworthy artificial intelligence.

The document further strengthened India’s push for women-led development, encouraging global action toward empowerment of women and girls.

On disaster resilience, one of the priority areas of the South African presidency, the declaration reinforced outcomes of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group initiated under India’s presidency and recognised the role of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

The Deccan High-Level Principles on Food Security and Nutrition were also reiterated, strengthening global efforts toward ensuring food security.

In the health sector, the declaration recognised the importance of traditional and complementary medicine, reflecting the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.

One of the major achievements highlighted by India was the stronger language on climate finance, acknowledging the need to scale up funding from billions to trillions. The declaration noted that developing countries require an estimated USD 5.8-5.9 trillion for implementing climate commitments before 2030. The importance of LiFE Lifestyles for Sustainable Development was also reaffirmed.

India also advocated for reforms in the United Nations Security Council to improve its representation, a demand reflected in the declaration.

Overall, language and commitments from the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration found strong resonance throughout the document adopted at the South Africa Summit. (JKNS)
