Landmark POCSO Conviction in Baramulla: Perpetrator Sentenced to 14 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

Baramulla, Oct 31 (JKNS): In a significant step towards justice for children, the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Baramulla, on October 31, 2025, convicted Nisar Ahmad Bhat in a high-profile POCSO case involving sexual assault of a minor.

As per news agency JKNS, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Baramulla, pronounced a landmark judgment on 31-10-2025, convicting Mr. Nisar Ahmad Bhat, S/O Asadullah Bhat, resident of Reshi Mohalla, Hajibal, Baramulla, in connection with FIR No. 34/2018, registered at Police Station Sheeri, Baramulla, under Sections 447, 376 RPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This case involved a grievous offence of sexual assault against a minor.

After a meticulous and professional investigation conducted by the Baramulla Police, the Hon’ble Court delivered its verdict on 29-10-2025, finding the accused guilty.

Subsequently, during the sentencing hearing on 30-10-2025, the Court imposed a rigorous imprisonment of 14 years under Section 4 of the POCSO Act and 3 months under Section 447 of the RPC. Additionally, a fine amounting to ₹50,000/- has been levied on the convict.

The investigation was diligently led by Inspector Feroz Ahmad (No. 7130/NGO, EXK-001896) of Baramulla Police, whose dedication ensured a thorough inquiry and robust prosecution of the charge sheet before the Hon’ble Court.

This conviction reinforces the unwavering commitment of Baramulla Police to delivering justice for victims of sexual offences, underscoring its zero-tolerance stance against crimes targeting children and women.

The Baramulla Police remains resolute in pursuing all such cases with utmost rigor, ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice in accordance with the law. (JKNS)
