Housing Dept Launches Measures to Tackle Urban Congestion in J&K: Govt

Srinagar, Oct 30 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that multiple housing initiatives are underway to address the issue of rising urban congestion across the Union Territory.

Responding to a starred question (AQ No.198) raised by MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Housing and Urban Development Department as per news agency JKNS, said that several projects have been taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) through the J&K Housing Board.

The reply mentioned the construction of 760 flats for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) atg Bhalwal, Jammu, and 304 flats at Chakhar, Sundli, Udhampur.

In addition, the government said that state land has been identified in various districts for future housing colonies, with 10 locations already transferred to the J&K Housing Board for the development of new residential projects, including those meant for EWS.

Affordable rental housing and flats under the Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) scheme are also being developed in Jammu City to provide relief to the urban poor.

The response was signed by the Chief Minister, who holds the charge of the Housing and Urban Development Department. (JKNS)
