New Delhi — The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today reaffirmed that India’s oil import policies are guided strictly by the need to safeguard domestic consumer interests amidst a volatile global energy scenario.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that “Ensuring stable energy prices and secured supplies have been the twin goals of the country’s energy policy.” He clarified that this objective necessitates “broad-basing energy sourcing and diversifying as appropriate to meet market conditions.”

Responding to media queries on the country’s energy procurement strategy, Mr. Jaiswal highlighted that India has sought to expand its energy sourcing for many years, a process that has “steadily progressed in the last decade.”

Regarding bilateral ties, the spokesperson noted that “The current US administration has shown interest in deepening energy cooperation with India, and discussions are ongoing.”

The statement underscores India’s consistent priority as a significant oil and gas importer to protect its consumers and ensure energy security through diverse global procurement.
