NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the agreement on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which aims to de-escalate the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In a statement released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and a subsequent post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the initial agreement would provide much-needed relief in the region.
“We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu,” the Prime Minister stated on X, tagging President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He further articulated his optimism regarding the key components of the phase, expressing hope that “the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring much-needed respite and pave the way for lasting peace in the region.”
The agreement on the first phase of the peace plan was announced by President Trump earlier in the day, marking what is being widely viewed as the most significant breakthrough in the two-year-long conflict in Gaza. The first phase reportedly involves a temporary ceasefire, the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops.
