New Delhi – The nation is paying homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 156th birth anniversary today. A high-profile lineup of leaders gathered at Rajghat in the national capital to offer respects, marking the start of a series of commemorative functions across the country.

A Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha (All-Faith Prayer Meet) was held this morning at Bapu’s Samadhi, Rajghat. Leading the tributes were President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, who all paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

Functions are being organized across the country and by Indian Missions abroad to commemorate the ideals and legacy of Bapu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, reflecting on his profound global impact. In a social media post, Mr. Modi stated that Gandhi Jayanti is about paying homage to the “extraordinary life of beloved Bapu, whose ideals transformed the course of human history.”

Praising Gandhi’s philosophy, the Prime Minister highlighted how Gandhi “demonstrated how courage and simplicity could become instruments of great change.” He further noted that Mahatma Gandhi believed in the “power of service and compassion” as essential means of empowering people. Mr. Modi affirmed that the nation will “continue to follow his path to build a Viksit Bharat.”
