New Delhi – Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan today issued a strong call for military preparedness against future bio-threats and radio contamination from nuclear weapons. He made the remarks while addressing the Scientific Session on the 100th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) in New Delhi.

General Chauhan stated that bio-threats are “likely to increase in the post-COVID pandemic era” and stressed the critical need for robust defence preparedness to counter them.

Furthermore, the CDS highlighted the importance of anticipating risks from nuclear weapons, even while the probability of their use remains low. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for an undeterred India against nuclear threats and emphasized the urgency of training against radiological contamination, which requires specialized medical protocols.

General Chauhan used the centenary celebration to laud the “selfless service” and dedication of the Military Nursing Service, an all-woman corps that remains a vital part of the Armed Forces Medical Services.

He praised the MNS personnel for their critical contribution to medical treatment, often under the most challenging circumstances. “Whether in the frontline of conflicts, makeshift hospitals, aboard ships on seas or humanitarian missions,” the CDS said, the dedication of the Military Nursing Service has consistently “brought comfort to the wounded, solace to the distressed and hope to the hopeless.”
