Srinagar, Sep 15 (JKNS): A new High Capacity Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) train has started between Budgam and New Delhi, providing a major lift to the transport of apples, walnuts, and other perishable goods from Kashmir.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vivek Kumar, speaking on the sidelines of the launch, after the train was flagged off by LG Sinha, Kumar said the service will operate daily with eight parcel vans, each of 23-ton capacity, carrying a total load of 160–170 tonnes.

“It is a daily parcel train in which apples, walnuts, and many other products can be transported. The train will depart every morning at 6:00 AM, halt at Bari Brahmana, and then reach Adarsh Nagar, Delhi,” he said.

He added that the biggest advantage is its fixed timetable, allowing farmers and traders to plan logistics in advance and ensure timely deliveries.

Additional Member of the Railway Board, Dr. Manoj Singh, said a new goods shed at Anantnag has been completed, from where a 15-VP parcel train for apple transportation will start soon. He said the cement demand has already been met via railways, and now horticulture will gain significant support.

Another senior railway official disclosed that the first Budgam-Delhi train carried apples worth ₹2.5 crore, reaching the capital in just 24 hours.

He added that unlike road transport, which often faces delays due to closures, the parcel train ensures faster and uninterrupted supply.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated the Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) train from Budgam Railway Station to New Delhi, opening a new corridor for swift transportation of perishable goods. (JKNS)
