CP Radhakrishnan Defeats Opposition Nominee, Elected India’s Vice President

New Delhi, Sep 9 (JKNS): NDA nominee and Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan was on Tuesday elected as the Vice President of India after defeating opposition candidate Justice B. Sudershan Reddy in a direct contest.

As per Returning Officer and Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P.C. Mody as per news agency JKNS, Radhakrishnan secured 452 first preference votes against Reddy’s 300. With this victory, the NDA-backed leader will now assume charge as the country’s Vice President.

Officials said the voting took place in Parliament House with members of both Houses casting their ballot, followed by the counting process in the evening. The majority mark was set at 391, comfortably crossed by the NDA nominee. (JKNS)
