Srinagar, Aug 28 (JKNS): Despite government orders directing the closure of all educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday due to inclement weather and flood risk, a private school in Srinagar remained open, summoned staff, and even conducted a Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM).

Several parents told news agency JKNS that the school administration asked them to attend the parent teacher meeting (PTM) ignoring the official closure order.

An administrator of Green Valley Educational Institute, (name witheld), confirmed to JKNS that a PTM had indeed been held.

When asked about the government’s directive, he stated that “classwork had been suspended for the safety of students,” but did not clarify why the PTM was organized despite the school closure order.

Administrator while remaining adamant that they did’nt violate the government order said “you can mention it in Newspaper.”

However, the directive issued by the Education Minister and Director School Education Kashmir had categorically stated that all schools were to remain closed, with no mention of suspending classwork.

The decision to hold a PTM is therefore seen as a clear violation of government orders.

Officials yesterday said that the closure was ordered as a precautionary measure to ensure safeguard public lives amid the prevailing weather situation.

Repeated attempts by JKNS to contact the principal of the school went unanswered. (JKNS)
