GAZA CITY—Gaza’s Health Ministry announced that 10 more Palestinians, including two children, have died in the past 24 hours from “famine and malnutrition,” bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths to 313, with 119 of the victims being children.
The latest deaths were reported as Israeli forces intensify their military offensive in Gaza City in an effort to occupy the area. According to reports from Al Jazeera teams on the ground, Israeli tanks and warplanes have been used to level entire blocks, causing widespread destruction.
The new casualties come as the humanitarian crisis in the enclave continues to worsen, with international aid agencies warning of a man-made famine. One resident of Gaza City, speaking to Al Jazeera, said, “We are living in our final days in Gaza City.”
The UN’s Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) confirmed on August 22 that a famine was occurring in Gaza City. The IPC warned that if the military offensive continues, famine conditions could spread to other parts of the Gaza Strip, including Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.
