Srinagar, Aug 24 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that at least 32 people are still missing after a devastating cloudburst struck parts of Kishtwar district, leaving behind death and destruction.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha as per news agency JKNS after visiting GMC Jammu to meet the injured, said that several bodies have been retrieved while 16 people are undergoing treatment and are stable.

“As of now, 16 people are admitted here and their condition is stable. I hope they all recover soon and return to their homes. Many people unfortunately lost their lives, several bodies have been retrieved and 32 are still missing, he said.

Around ₹4 crore 13 lakh has already been disbursed among the affected. The Government of India and the J&K administration are fully committed to their rehabilitation and welfare,” Sinha added.

LG Sinha said that all agencies are on alert to prevent further damage. “Heavy rains are being witnessed in most parts of the UT. Advisories have been issued and people have been urged to remain cautious. SDRF and NDRF teams are fully prepared. I hope no major mishap occurs,” he remarked.

Restoration and relief work is underway in the affected areas, with continued efforts to trace those still missing. (JKNS)
