Tangdhar, Aug 24 (JKNS): AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association) Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and warmth at Tangdhar under the aegis of the Shakti Vijay Brigade.

The event, presided over by Mrs. Sanjana Pradhan, Chairperson, Family Welfare Organisation, witnessed the participation of more than 150 dependents and families, including four Veer Naris and 16 widows, whose presence lent both dignity and pride to the occasion.

Children showcased colourful and spirited cultural performances, which captivated the audience and set a vibrant tone for the celebrations.

In her earnest address, Mrs. Pradhan highlighted AWWA’s role as a pillar of emotional and social support for the veteran fraternity. She stressed the importance of women’s empowerment through education, self-reliance, and skill development, urging young women of this strategically vital border area to embrace emerging opportunities created by better infrastructure, communication, and the wide range of Army’s Sadbhavna initiatives. Drawing upon her own Kashmiri roots, she encouraged children and youth to focus on values, hard work, and constructive pursuits, while cautioning families against the growing concerns of drug abuse and negative social media influences.

On the occasion, Smt. Zafar Jan, wife of Late Hav Ahmed Din, was felicitated with the AWWA Excellence Award for her resilience and contribution to community welfare. Shri Qayoom was also recognised for his sustained efforts in supporting ex-servicemen and dependents in the region. Their recognition stood as a testimony to the Brigade’s commitment to honour sacrifices and uplift the families of those who have served the nation.

The Shakti Vijay Brigade reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of veterans and families through numerous initiatives, including vocational training programmes for women, educational guidance for children, job opportunities for youth, and sustained welfare support for Veer Naris and widows.

The event concluded with a fellowship tea, where serving personnel, veterans, and families interacted in a spirit of camaraderie. The overwhelming participation made the celebration a memorable landmark in Karnah, reflecting the deep bond of trust, care, and partnership between the Indian Army and its extended family. (JKNS)
