New Delhi, July 25 (JKNS): The Central Government has clarified that its employees can utilize existing leave provisions to take care of their elderly parents, as per the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.

In a written reply to an unstarred question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, as per news agency JKNS said that the rules provide for 30 days of earned leave, 20 days of half-pay leave, 8 days of casual leave, and 2 days of restricted holiday per annum. These can be availed for any personal reasons, including caring for elderly parents.

The response came after MP Sumitra Balmik inquired whether there was a dedicated provision for employees to avail leave specifically for the care of elderly parents, similar to child care leave, and if the ministry was considering introducing such a provision.

Dr. Singh clarified that no separate provision exists for elderly care leave, but employees can use the existing leave entitlements for the purpose. (JKNS)
