New Delhi, July 25 (JKNS): In a major step to strengthen cancer care infrastructure, the Government has approved the establishment of over 200 Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) across the country for the financial year 2025-26.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply as per news agency JKNS, “These centres will primarily function in district hospitals, depending on the availability of space and logistics. However, proposals from States for setting them up in other government health facilities will also be considered,” Jadhav said adding that each DCCC will cost up to ₹1.49 crore based on local needs and infrastructure gaps.

According to the data, Jammu & Kashmir will get DCCCs in six districts Jammu, Shopian, Reasi, Samba, Ramban, and Kishtwar. Ladakh will have two centres, further boosting cancer care facilities in the Union Territory.

Nationally, Uttar Pradesh leads with 75 centres, followed by Telangana (33), Maharashtra (27), Karnataka (16), and Jharkhand (16). Districts with a high cancer burden were prioritized based on Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) cancer registry data.

The proposals submitted by States and Union Territories were finalized by the National Programme Coordination Committee (NPCC) to ensure optimal resource utilization and avoid duplication of services. (JKNS)
