New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
In a post on “X” the micro blogging social networking site formerly called “twitter” PMO said that this meeting was held against a backdrop of increased administrative and security measures in Jammu & Kashmir. While specific details of the discussion were not disclosed, it suggests ongoing collaboration between the central government and the Union Territory’s leadership. Significantly, this meeting followed Sinha’s recent statement regarding the restoration of statehood for Jammu & Kashmir, which he indicated would occur at an appropriate time, in line with promises made by Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The context of the meeting is further underscored by recent events, particularly the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. In response to the attack, India initiated “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, leading to skirmishes that lasted until May 10.A ceasefire was established following communication between military leaders of both nations. As stability returns, tourism in Kashmir is reviving, with over 250,000 devotees visiting the Amarnath shrine during the ongoing pilgrimage season.
