Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed yet another sweltering day on Wednesday with Srinagar sizzling at 33.9°C and Qazigund recording the 3rd highest june temperature at 34.6°C, with maximum temperatures continuing to soar well above normal in both Kashmir and Jammu division parts.
According to the data compiled by Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, Qazigund recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6°C, making it the third-highest June temperature since 1962.
The reading matches a similar temperature recorded on June 23, 2023, and follows previous records of 35.3°C on June 27, 1988, and the all-time high of 35.7°C on June 26, 1988, data stated.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9°C, which is 5.9°C above the normal. Other areas in the Kashmir region also reported significantly above-average temperatures, it reads.
Kupwara at 32.8°C, Kokernag at 32.8°C, Pahalgam at 28.8°C, and Gulmarg, the famed hill resort, at 24.0°C all showing departures of over 4°C from the average, data stated.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city itself touched 44.4°C, which is 5.6°C above the seasonal norm. Katra followed closely at 40.6°C, while Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also reported intense heat, recording 34.1°C, 33.3°C, and 34.4°C respectively, all well above the usual June averages.
In Ladakh, Leh reported a temperature of 26.0°C, while data for Kargil was not available at the time of compilation.
earlier weather office Srinagar have issued advisory urging residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours (12 PM to 4 PM), stay well-hydrated, and take necessary precautions, especially for the elderly and children.
The heatwave is expected to continue in the coming days, with only brief spell of rain likely in some areas from June 14 onwards with no mojor relief from heatwave. (JKNS)
