Samba: Panic gripped Mananu village along the Samba-Mansar road on Monday after an old mortar shell was found lying near the banks of the Basantar river, officials said.
Official sources told news agency JKNS that locals, upon spotting the suspicious object, immediately alerted the police, following which a team rushed to the spot. They said the shell appeared to be quite old and rusted.
The area was secured, and the bomb disposal squad later arrived and safely took the shell into their custody, they said.
Authorities have urged people to remain cautious and report any suspicious items to the nearest police station. (JKNS)
